Responsible Gambling at Royal

We want your time with Royal to stay enjoyable. This page explains the control tools we offer, where to get help if gambling stops feeling like entertainment, and the practical steps you can take today to protect yourself and anyone who shares your device (18+).
Why responsible gambling matters
Gambling is entertainment, not a way to solve money problems or earn an income. When it stays within limits you set in advance, it can be fun. When it doesn't, it becomes a problem quickly — affecting your finances, your relationships and your mental health.
We provide tools that let you set boundaries before you need them. Using them is not a sign of weakness; it's how you keep play under control.
Signs gambling is getting out of hand
These behaviours are worth noticing early:
- Spending more than you planned, or chasing losses after a bad session
- Lying to family or friends about how much you gamble or how much you've lost
- Borrowing money, using credit or dipping into savings to fund play
- Neglecting work, bills or responsibilities because you're gambling or thinking about it
- Feeling anxious, irritable or depressed when you try to cut back
- Gambling to escape problems or numb difficult feelings
If two or more of these apply to you, it's time to take action. The help resources below are free, confidential and available right now.
Questions worth asking yourself
Answer honestly — no one else sees this:
- Have you ever lied about how much you gamble?
- Do you gamble until your balance is gone, even when you meant to stop earlier?
- Have you missed work, family events or other commitments because of gambling?
- Do you feel guilty or ashamed after a session?
- Have you borrowed money to gamble or to cover gambling losses?
- Has gambling caused arguments with people close to you?
- Do you think about gambling when you're doing something else?
- After losing, do you feel you need to play again soon to win it back?
One "yes" is worth paying attention to. Three or more means you should reach out for support today.
Our control tools
We provide a self-assessment tool that scores your play patterns and flags risky behaviour. It's available in your account settings and takes under two minutes to complete.
Deposit limits let you cap how much you add to your balance per day, week or month. Set them before you deposit; they apply immediately and cannot be raised without a 24-hour cooling-off period.
Loss limits work the same way but track net losses rather than deposits — daily, weekly or monthly. Once you hit the ceiling, you can still play with any remaining balance, but you cannot add more funds until the period resets.
Wagering limits cap the total amount you can bet per day, week or month. This covers all stake activity, not just losses.
A session limit logs you out automatically after a set period — useful if you lose track of time. You can log back in, but the interruption gives you a moment to decide whether to continue.
Reality checks are reminders that appear on screen at intervals you choose, showing how long you've been playing and how much you've won or lost in that session.
You can view your complete player history — every deposit, withdrawal, bet and result — in your account at any time. Reviewing it once a month is a good habit.
Time-out and self-exclusion
A time-out freezes your account for a period you choose, from 24 hours to six months. You cannot log in, deposit or play during that period. It's reversible once the time expires, but you cannot shorten it early.
Self-exclusion is permanent and lasts a minimum of six months. Your account is closed and cannot be reopened during that period. After six months you can request reactivation, but there is a seven-day cooling-off period before access is restored. Use this when you need a hard stop.
Practical limits that work
Set a monthly amount you can afford to lose and treat it as gone the moment you deposit it. If you win, withdraw the profit immediately rather than leaving it in your balance.
Never gamble on credit, and never chase a loss by depositing more than you planned. A bad session does not owe you anything back.
Decide in advance how long a session will last, and set a session limit or an alarm to enforce it. Stop when the time is up, whether you are ahead or behind.
Keep gambling separate from other parts of your life — do not play when you are working, stressed, drinking or trying to solve a problem. It will not help.
Take regular breaks. One week off every three months is a useful reset, whether you think you need it or not.
Where to get help in the UK
GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The call is free and confidential. You can also access live chat and email support at gamcare.org.uk.
BeGambleAware offers information, self-assessment tools and a directory of local treatment services at begambleaware.org.
GamStop is a free national self-exclusion scheme that blocks access to all UK-licensed gambling sites for six months, one year or five years. Register at gamstop.co.uk — it takes five minutes and applies across every operator licensed by the UK Gambling Commission.
Gordon Moody provides residential and online treatment programmes for people with serious gambling problems. Find out more at gordonmoody.org.uk.
Blocking software
Gamban (gamban.com) blocks access to gambling sites across all your devices — phone, tablet, computer. It costs a small monthly fee but works even when you are using a browser in private mode.
BetBlocker (betblocker.org) does the same job and is completely free. It works on desktop and mobile, and you can set it to block access for a fixed period or permanently.
Protecting minors
You must be 18 or over (18+) to use our site. If you share a device with someone younger, consider installing parental-control software such as Net Nanny or Qustodio to prevent access.
Keep your login details private, and log out after every session. A device left signed in is an open door.
